Psa 48:14 For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death.
This is so important. I just read the story of Joshua taking all the kings of Canaan. (chapters 9-11) Early in the story the Gibeonites came and begged a peace treaty with Israel and Israel gave them the peace treaty, but they did not consult with Jehovah.

God is our God FOREVER. HE is to be our guide. He can only do that if we are looking!

The bible talks about “leading” the sheep. We had some sheep when I was a kid. And sometimes it was up to me to move them from one pasture to another when they had cleaned themselves right out of grass. If the ram was not there, the ewes would really follow you. You just get their attention and they will walk with you from one pasture to another. However, the ram was not so easy. He was ornery and had to be DRIVEN from one place to another. He would not be LED. You could get his attention and try to get him to chase you, but he usually won. The best way to move him was to get a 2 x 4 and place it behind his head and kind of push him along.

God never says in His word that He will DRIVE us. He says He will LEAD us.

Psa 49:1 Hear this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world:
Psa 49:2 Both low and high, rich and poor, together.
Psa 49:3 My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.
Psa 49:4 I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp. Psa 49:5 Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about?
Psa 49:6 They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;
Psa 49:7 None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:
We talked about this yesterday. Paul said he wished he could be accursed from Christ so that his brothers could be saved. We cannot redeem our brothers. And Praise God for that. We do not have to struggle with ourselves or sacrifice ourselves to prove our love and fidelity for one another. We CANNOT redeem one another. Likewise, we cannot worship one another. Only God can save.

Psa 49:8 (For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:)
Psa 49:9 That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption.
Psa 49:10 For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.
Psa 49:11 Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.
Psa 49:12 Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.
Psa 49:13 This their way is their folly: yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah.
We can watch this happen, generation after generation. People think they are great, they die, and they become no more important than any other. They all die. They all leave their stuff to someone else. And yet people still hold to the thought that they will leave something permanent behind them.

Psa 49:14 Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling.
Psa 49:15 But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah.
Psa 49:16 Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased;
Psa 49:17 For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him.
Psa 49:18 Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and men will praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself.
Psa 49:19 He shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light.
Psa 49:20 Man that is in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that perish.
Refusing Jesus makes a person not a person. Just a creature. Like cattle.

Pro 14:23 In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.
No work dedicated to the Lord will be lost. Every work done in the name of Jesus will be rewarded. However, just talking about the good works we should do, and not actually getting them done, will not be rewarded. In fact, to them that knoweth to do good and doeth it not, it is sin. We cannot just talk about visiting and expect anything from the Lord. We have to move.

Pro 14:26 In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.
The confidence is in the “fear of the Lord”. When we lose the “fear of the Lord”, we may also lose the strong confidence. They are tied together.

Rom 10:1 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.
Rom 10:2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.
Rom 10:3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
Rom 10:4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.
This applies to a lot of people, not just to the Jews. People that have a zeal for God, but not a submission to Jesus. They work to be good. They create their own good. And because they are good people, and do good to others, they feel safe. and because they do so much good, others think they are safe. but they have established their own righteousness. It will be dissolved. It will never stand in the judgement. They could do the very same works and earn great rewards, if they would only acknowledge Jesus.
