Proverbs 3:18-26
(18) She (Wisdom) is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.
(19) The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens.
It says we should seek wisdom, and by way of explaining why wisdom is to be desired, it says “because by wisdom the Lord has founded the earth”. If we seek wisdom, what could WE do? (John 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.)
(20) By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew.
(21) My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:
(22) So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck.
(23) Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.
(24) When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.
(25) Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh. (We are seeing this desolation all around us, in storms, in earthquakes, mudslides wars, violence and plenty of other evils. It is a little hard not to be afraid. And I know that every place there are disasters, there are a few of God’s people present, and they suffer along with the rest. Yet, there is a greater desolation coming. A desolation of the wicked, and we will have no part in it. Whatever evil befalls us here; we know our end in Christ.)

Who is near?
Psalms 119:150-151
(150) They draw nigh that follow after mischief: they are far from thy law.
(151) Thou art near, O LORD; and all thy commandments are truth.
Notice in these verses that the ungodly draw near and the Lord is near. We have both drawing near to us. And they are both trying to get us. And we are GOING to succumb to one or the other. We are not our own.

If God appears to us
1Kings 11:9-11
(9) And the LORD was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned from the LORD God of Israel, which had appeared unto him twice,
(10) And had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods: but he kept not that which the LORD commanded.
(11) Wherefore the LORD said unto Solomon, Forasmuch as this is done of thee, and thou hast not kept my covenant and my statutes, which I have commanded thee, I will surely rend the kingdom from thee, and will give it to thy servant.
It seems that if we get a special message from the Lord, we also get extra guilt. The Lord was angry with Solomon because He had appeared to him twice, and still Solomon did that which the Lord warned him against. So, if Solomon had not received special messages from the Lord, would there have been less guilt? Does this mean that people, who receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost, also receive the extra responsibility for their lives, like Solomon?

Look well to thy herds
Pro 27:23 Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.
Pro 27:24 For riches are not for ever: and doth the crown endure to every generation?
Pro 27:25 The hay appeareth, and the tender grass sheweth itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered.
Pro 27:26 The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are the price of the field.
Pro 27:27 And thou shalt have goats' milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and for the maintenance for thy maidens.
These verses tell us to look well to our work and we will have enough for our household and those that are dependant on us. And if we do NOT look well to our work, we cannot expect riches to last forever. And if we are fortunate enough to have inherited riches, we cannot expect them to last from one generation to another, unless we tend to them.
We are to "look well" to our work. "Look well" to our resources. Don't waste them. Don't fritter them away. Yet, don't hoard them. We can't take them to heaven! We have to use them well. Sometimes that means saving, sometimes it means giving. It rarely means spending on things that profit us nothing.

Excess baggage

(14) But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
I think this is a lifetime undertaking. To be crucified to the world, while still living in it. It is a great goal, but not something you can say once and just be there. I keep slipping back into the flesh. It is hard not to glory in accomplishment. Yet man is only vanity. It is the cross that stays.
(15) For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.
We are new creatures, but we are still dragging old baggage along with us. Every now and then, we succeed in leaving a piece of it at the cross, but we are still dragging bits and pieces of our worldliness around with us. if we live long enough, and keep leaving bits and pieces of our baggage at the cross, maybe someday we will really be crucified unto the world, and sanctified.
(16) And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.
(17) From henceforth let no man trouble me: for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus.
(18) Brethren, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen
I should let no man trouble me, for I bear the mark of the Lord Jesus. Some will try to trouble us. We can't be troubled. We are sealed.
So, I just read what I wrote, to see what God is telling me. (I asked Him to open my eyes to the scripture and I ask Him for a word for you, and I asked Him for a word for ME.) He is telling me to keep dropping my old baggage, just let it go, and glory ONLY in the cross. I wonder if He has something specific in mind, or if it applies to progress.

Don't be deceived!
2Co 11:1-3(1) Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me.(2) For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.(3) But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
I understand what Paul is saying in these verses; more now than I did a few years ago. Many people start out believing, and then Satan starts working on their minds and they are deceived and they walk away from what they knew.
Satan does not attack unbelievers. They are no threat to him. It is God's people that he works on. He is trying to destroy God's work. He knows he cannot win, (read the end of the story!), but in bitterness he does all the damage he can while he still can. Just like any jealous and hateful person you know, even if they cannot take what you have, they will still do all they can to damage and hurt.
Satan's best work is to cause people to drift away from God. When people are apart from God, they lose a LOT of blessings, and they do not increase the kingdom of God. So, Satan is able to damage both the person and the kingdom.
We don't have to let it happen! Stand fast in Christ.

As occasion serve thee
1Sa 10:6-7
(6) And the Spirit of the LORD will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.
(7) And let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that thou do as occasion serve thee; for God is with thee.
(9) And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day.
Verse 7 is where the rubber meets the road. To have the confidence to know the Lord is with you and to do as the occasion serves. Even if we are not led to prophesy, we have to learn to do what the occasion calls for, with out second-guessing the Lord.
How many times I have failed to pray for someone, although I felt I should. I don’t know when God is with me; I don’t know when He is leading me to do something and when I am in my own strength.
It is important for us to learn to discern the Lord's leading. We are missing too many opportunities to serve our Savior, because we haven't learned to hear His voice.

Caution
1Co 10:1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
1Co 10:2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
1Co 10:3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat;
1Co 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
1Co 10:5 But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
It says they all ate the same spiritual meat, which for us is the Word of God, and they drank the same spiritual drink, which is the Holy Ghost and they were all followed by the Rock which was Christ. But they did not all reach the same conclusion.
We all read the same bible, we all carry the same Jesus within us, and we all seek the same Holy Spirit, but we do not reach the same conclusions. What’s up with that? With many, God will not be pleased. How can we all be fed from the same resources and wind up at different ends?

1Co 10:7 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.
1Co 10:8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.
1Co 10:9 Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.
1Co 10:10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.
1Co 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
1Co 10:12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
Paul said the ends of the world were come on them of Corinth. Surely we are closer now than they were then. So these warnings are even more critical. There are preachers that preach peace and security and they would have people be calm and secure in their salvation, not fearing anything. But, Paul says right here, “let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.” I don’t think we should be quite so complacent as some are.

The measure of a man
1Co 4:19 But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord will, and will know, not the speech of them which are puffed up, but the power.

Read this out loud for yourself, slowly. It’s a prayer. When you finish you will have rejoiced and praised God. And you will want to read it again!

(3) Say unto God, How terrible art thou in thy works! through the greatness of thy power shall thine enemies submit themselves unto thee.
(4) All the earth shall worship thee, and shall sing unto thee; they shall sing to thy name. Selah.
(5) Come and see the works of God: he is terrible in his doing toward the children of men.
(6) He turned the sea into dry land: they went through the flood on foot: there did we rejoice in him.
(7) He ruleth by his power for ever; his eyes behold the nations: let not the rebellious exalt themselves. Selah.

Justified

And there is the greatest praise of all. Verse 11. such were some of you, (me actually), but I am washed, I am sanctified, I am justified in the Name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God. Praise God.
I cannot undo my history. It is done. I am already condemned to die. I will die for stealing, for fornication, for covetousness, for drunkenness, for reviling. I am dead. Even if I could get away with the one sin, I have several others to seal my sentence. I am still walking, but my sentence is already passed. I am just like the man in prison, waiting for the death penalty to be carried out. There is no parole for good behavior. I am dead.
But then there is verse 11. Praise God, I am forgiven. Jesus died. Jesus went to the death penalty. I am washed clean. I am alive! I want to stay clean.
